Lead Artist - Asha Fontenelle

Asha is a visual artist and arts educator based in South London. Using her background in social anthropology and painting, drawing and printmaking, her soft, brightly coloured, playful and often figurative work imagines worlds that are non-hierarchical, free and based in genuine care for others. Adopting honesty and the love ethic proposed by bell hooks, her practice allows space for challenging emotions and healing.

  • Participants can use art as a means of expression and as a healing, meditative tool

  • Participants to have freedom to be experimental and flexible in creating work

  • Participants to build confidence in their art making

  • Drawing on activities in past sessions, the final piece is to represent what participants see for the future

  • Through making, the young people can look to the past and the present moment to imagine a future of their own

  • Work will be inspired by afrofuturist/sci fi ideas

  • Participants will make work to inspire genuine care and kindness for themselves and others to help build confidence in their art making

  • Participants to learn about colour and texture and its use in symbolising mood/ emotion in artwork
