Croydon Music Service is part of Croydon Council Department for Children Young People and Learners. Our objectives are: · to support and develop the work of music teachers in schools · to provide complementary opportunities for pupils to experience appropriate, quality music making activities · over time to offer the opportunity for every child to learn an instrument · to encourage and develop to the full each pupil’s potential in playing, singing and creating music · to enable pupils to gain access to the wider benefits of music such as team working skills and increased self esteem · through the universal language of music to bring different communities together to celebrate Croydon’s cultural diversity
Underpinning these objectives is the national strategy for music education, the Music Manifesto. Croydon Music Service is a signatory to the Music Manifesto, our pledge is: · to formulate a strategy for music in Croydon, based on the key aims of the Music Manifesto · to form a partnership with specialist schools and others within the wider Croydon education and arts community to oversee the development and delivery of the strategy
