“Knowing music makes a difference” – the benefits of music education
|
Music makes a difference. It plays a vital part in our lives, but especially so for young people, and it has an important role to play in their development.
Through music young people can learn about and appreciate the worlds of others. Music is also an important way of communicating and expressing emotion and developing creativity and imagination. Young people define their identity by the music they listen to.
Music benefits pupils in other ways too. The physical and intellectual challenge of instrumental / vocal lessons develops pupils’ self-discipline and ability to learn; performing improves pupils’ confidence and self-esteem; enjoyment of music making increases pupils’ motivation and improves attitudes to school, and learning together develops team working skills.
