CMS provides a wide range of instrumental and vocal teaching in Croydon schools from the beginner SoundStart programme to university and music college entrance. Instrumental teaching is available for all orchestral and band instruments, keyboard, piano, guitar, drum kit, Indian harmonium, tabla and voice. Click on tuition to find out about learning to play an instrument with CMS and information about the different instruments available.
Learning to play an instrument is just the beginning. We offer a comprehensive range of ensembles and other out of school groups which further develop and enhance the skills taught in lessons. Regular performances take place at Fairfield Halls, throughout Croydon and further afield, including regular tours abroad by the senior groups.
For parents and carers there is further information about supporting your child, our Instrument Assisted Purchase Scheme for buying instruments free of VAT, and the parents associations which support our work.
CMS works with schools and teachers in Croydon to develop the music curriculum and to deliver opportunities for young people’s music making. There is also information here for teachers interested in working in Croydon. Music makes a difference. It plays a vital part in our lives, helping to define our identity. Making music develops our ability to communicate and express emotion. It benefits pupils in other ways too. The physical and intellectual challenge of instrumental / vocal lessons develops pupils’ self-discipline and ability to learn; performing improves pupils’ confidence and self-esteem; enjoyment of music making increases pupils’ motivation and learning together develops team working skills. |
