Applying for lessons and further information |
Instrument Pupils' commitment and success in instrumental lessons is greatest when they own their own instrument. We have a stock of instruments for hire to enable beginners to try out an instrument before parents / carers commit to purchase, and to provide continuing access to an instrument for low income families or where the cost of purchasing an instrument is high. Some schools also have instruments available. We also have an Instrument Assisted Purchase Scheme (IAPS) to enable parents / carers to purchase instruments free of VAT for pupils using them in lessons. Alternatively retailers have a range of hire to buy schemes. Contact your child's teacher for advice on the make, model and size of instrument to buy.
Not all instruments are suitable for all ages, for example string instruments are available in small sizes, wind instruments only in adult sizes, and not all instruments are taught in all schools. It is best to choose an instrument your child has expressed an interest in, and you may like to consider that some of the more unusual instruments will offer more opportunities for playing with others in bands and orchestras. It is not unusual for a child to try one instrument, not get on with it and then be very successful at another.
