Learning a musical instrument is just the beginning…

Young musicians who have been learning for as little as six months can join one of the Instrumental Workshops at Croydon Young Musicians on Saturday mornings.  There is a String Orchestra and Concert Band to progress to, the Voice Works choir and grade 5 theory classes.

The centre also includes the infant Mini Music Makers introduction to music making.

More experienced players can belong to one of our Centres.  The activities include exploring the heritage of their instrument; in depth study of aspects of advanced technique; playing in smaller groups to develop listening skills, musical leadership and sensitivity to others as well as playing in one of the comprehensive range of bands, orchestras or other ensembles.  Music studied includes classical and popular styles and folk music from around the world.

To complement the regular groups there are holiday courses, tours abroad for senior groups and regular concerts at Oasis , Fairfield and other venues in Croydon and further afield.

Beginner tuition will not normally be available at our music centres, but the exception is the Centre for Endangered Species. Oboe, bassoon, double bass and French horn pupils have traditionally had a lonely time in the first years of learning, but by coming together for lessons they can now experience the same enjoyment of learning together which pupils of other instruments have.

Information leaflets and application forms can be downloaded from the web pages for the different Centres.
