Progress and further opportunities
Applying for lessons and further information |
Pupil Progress Successful lessons need a commitment from the student, especially to practise regularly the skills taught in lessons, and the support of parents / carers. Teachers will monitor pupil progress and keep records of lessons, using a planned scheme of work. Pupils (with help from parents / carers for younger pupils) should monitor practice at home, spending time carefully following the teacher's advice on what and how to practise and also find time to play old favourites and maybe explore something new for themselves. Croydon Music and Arts has practice charts and booklets to help with this.
You will receive a written annual report from the teacher, but do use the practice chart / booklet to keep in touch with the teacher at other times. Attending a younger child's lesson (if there is space in the teaching room!) can help you to understand how to support your child, but do check with the school and the instrumental teacher first. Performances will be arranged from time to time, and these give you a chance to enjoy your child's progress.
Transferring School When your child transfers school you will need to contact your child's new school to ask about the arrangements for instrumental / vocal lessons there. If continuing tuition is not available at your child’s new school we shall try to offer it at an after school or Saturday morning centre.
Further Opportunities Pupils will get greatest pleasure from playing an instrument / singing by taking up opportunities for making music with others. There are groups at school to join, and Croydon Music and Arts runs a comprehensive programme of bands, orchestras and other groups in evenings, weekends and holidays. Instrumental / vocal teachers will give you information about these opportunities. |
