Working with the Head of Service is an Assistant Head of Service (Creative Arts) and two Assistant Heads of Service (Instrumental Music).  They are responsible for the development of Croydon’s Music and Arts Education Strategy, the line management of the instrumental / vocal teachers and the continuing professional development programme for all music and arts teachers in Croydon.  They share leadership of the music centres with three Heads of Centres and the development of the instrumental / vocal curriculum with three Instrument Coordinators.

This team of leading music and arts educators is complemented by more than 50 full and part time instrumental / vocal teachers.  During the selection process, all instrumental / vocal teaching staff are required to demonstrate appropriate performing and teaching skills to be placed on the panel of teachers and, through induction, all teachers are required to demonstrate meeting the Federation of Music Services (FMS) Standards for Instrumental / Vocal Teachers.

All staff are required to have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check.

All teachers have access to continuing professional development through Performance Management by senior staff, including observation of lessons, and regular Development Days and other forms of training and development.  Instrumental / vocal teachers follow schemes of work, based on the Federation of Music Services instrumental / vocal curriculum, A Common Approach.

The service is supported by the finance and administration manager and a small team of administrative staff.
