Support for the Music Curriculum in Schools
The professional development for teachers in schools available from CMS includes: · Curriculum support in primary schools through Assistant Head of Service (Primary Curriculum), including Sound Foundation for Foundation Stage, and Croydon Curriculum Music Project for Key Stages 1 and 2 · Curriculum support in secondary schools through Secondary Music AST for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 · Teachers courses, including termly primary and secondary network meetings, can be accessed through the QDI annual offer to schools · Access to the Croydon Curriculum Music Project through discussion with the Assistant Head of Service (Primary Curriculum) · For other curriculum support / consultancy through the Assistant Head of Service (Primary Curriculum) or Primary and Secondary Music ASTs, contact the music service for an initial discussion · CMS follows the QDI Code of Practice for curriculum support and professional development consultancy · Full details and costs are in the CMS professional development support booklet, available from CMS
The activities for pupils includes: · Sound Experience live music demonstrations in schools with music service staff · CMS also facilitates projects with musicians from professional groups and world music specialists · Projects are advertised to schools at the time · SoundStart whole class teaching for beginner instrumentalists at Key Stage 2, which is integrated with the Croydon Curriculum Music Project · SoundStart at Key Stage 3 · Examinations for instrumentalists and singers, part of National Qualifications Framework · Preparing pupils for solo and ensemble performances for GCSE / A level
