Instrumental and Vocal Workshops
|
Instrumental Workshops are for any young instrumentalist who has had a term or two of lessons up to about Grade 2 or Silver Music Medal standard. They are designed to complement the tuition pupils have in their instrumental lessons. They aim to motivate young instrumentalists in the early stages of learning and, under the guidance of specialist experienced tutors, to develop and reinforce the good playing habits which are essential for making further progress.
Workshop members will study a wide range of music, in unison and in parts, and activities will cover the musical skills needed for playing in more advanced groups. Most of the time will be spent with instruments of the same family but occasionally different workshops will be combined to give pupils the opportunity to rehearse and perform as part of a larger group of mixed instruments.
Joining a workshop is the first step to achievement in, and a lasting enjoyment of, playing a musical instrument.
Workshops for strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments meet on Saturday mornings at Croydon Young Musicians.
Workshops for keyboard and guitar meet on Tuesday evenings at the Centre for Young Keyboard Players and the Centre for Young Guitarists.
Vocal Workshop The Vocal Workshop is open to all enthusiastic young musicians. The voice is used as the basis for developing musical skills and a deeper understanding and enjoyment of music. It works at different levels in different groups as well as meeting all together, and aims to develop musicianship skills which complement a young instrumentalists playing skills. The Vocal Workshop meets on Saturday mornings at Croydon Young Musicians. |
