Learning a musical instrument is just the beginning…

Young musicians who have been learning for as little as six months can join one of the Instrumental Workshops.  They receive expert tuition to develop their playing and musical skills and play in an ensemble with others.  There are also Vocal and Creative Workshops at Croydon Young Musicians on Saturday mornings which are free for those attending an instrumental workshop or ensemble.

More experienced players can belong to one of our Centres.  The activities include exploring the heritage of their instrument; in depth study of aspects of advanced technique; playing in smaller groups to develop listening skills, musical leadership and sensitivity to others as well as playing in one of the comprehensive range of bands, orchestras or other ensembles.  Music studied includes classical and popular styles and folk music from around the world.

To complement the regular groups there are theory and musicianship classes up to Grade 5, holiday courses, tours abroad for senior groups and regular concerts at Ashburton, Fairfield and other venues in Croydon and further afield.

Beginner tuition will not normally be available at the Centres, but the exceptions are the Centre for Asian Music (for Indian harmonium and tabla) and the Centre for Endangered Species, (for oboe, bassoon, French horn and double bass).  Tuition for talented pianists is available at the Centre for Young Pianists.

Information leaflets and application forms can be downloaded from the web pages for the different Centres.
