6.00pm – 7.45pm        Croydon Youth Guitar Ensemble

The Guitar Workshop is for a young guitarist who has had a term or two of lessons up to about Grade 2 or Silver Music Medal standard.  It is designed to complement the tuition pupils have in their instrumental lessons.  It aims to motivate young guitarists in the early stages of learning and, under the guidance of specialist experienced tutors, to develop and reinforce the good playing habits which are essential for making further progress.  Workshop members study a wide range of music, in unison and in parts, and activities cover the musical skills needed for playing in more advanced groups.  Joining the workshop is the first step to achievement in, and a lasting enjoyment of, playing the guitar.

At around Grade 3, or Gold Music Medal standard, pupils will be advised that they are ready to move to the Guitar Ensemble for intermediate and advanced pupils.  There they still receive specialist help with the skills needed for making progress on the guitar, and are able to develop ensemble playing to a high level.

The Centre meets at the same time as the Centre for Young Keyboard Players and the Centre for Wind and Percussion which enables guitarists to have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with other instruments occasionally.  Guitarists will need a nylon strung guitar and footstool.

If you would like to join the Guitar Ensemble download a leaflet and and workshop application form or ensemble application form here.
